Suji ka Halwa (Sheera)

Suji Ka Halwa or Sheera is a traditional Indian dessert which is made during festivals or auspicious occasions.
Ingredients
  • Semolina: 1 cup
  • Milk: 1 cup
  • Water: 1 cup
  • Sugar: ¾ cup
  • Ghee: 4-5 tsp
  • Cashew Nuts: 5-6 (optional)
  • Almonds: 4-5 (optional)
  • Raisins: 5-6 (optional)
  • Cardamom Powder: ¼ tsp
  • Saffron: A few strands
  • Salt: to taste
Instructions
  1. Mix milk and water together and heat it. Take around 2 tbsp of this milk and add saffron to it. Keep aside,
  2. Heat the ghee in a pan, add semolina and stir fry the semolina till slightly brown.
  3. Add the milk-water and saffron mixture from step 1 to the semolina and mix well.
  4. Add sugar and salt and stir continuously till it becomes thick.
  5. Add cashew nuts, almonds and raisins. You can also add a chopped banana to the Sheera.
