Bread upma is a very simple breakfast recipe which helps in finishing left over bread. Bread is broken into small pieces and cooked with an onion-potato and spices mixture to make bread upma.
Ingredients
  • Bread slices: 8
  • Onion: 1 medium chopped
  • Green Chilies: 3 small slit vertically
  • Potato(Small): 1 sliced into small pieces
  • Green Peas: 2 tbsp
  • Grated Coconut: 1 tsp (optional)
  • Coriander: 2 tbsp finely chopped
  • Mustard Seeds: ½ tsp
  • Cumin Seeds: ½ tsp
  • Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  • Salt: to taste
Instructions
  1. Heat 1 tsp of oil in a pan and put the mustard seeds and cumin seeds in it. Let splutter.
  2. Add onion and green chilies and stir fry till translucent.
  3. Add the potato and green peas and stir fry briefly.
  4. Add a little water and keep covered till the potato is cooked. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  5. In the meanwhile, cut the bread slices into very small pieces. Add ½ tsp turmeric powder, grated coconut and coriander and mix well.
  6. Add the bread pieces to the pan and mix well. Close lid and cook for 2-3 minutes.
