A very tasty and flavorful recipe of Chicken Kofta Curry in which chicken balls are cooked in an onion tomato gravy flavored with spices.
Ingredients
  • For the kofta:
  • Ginger: 1 inch piece
  • Garlic: 16 cloves
  • Green Chilies: 4
  • Oil: ½ cup
  • Onion: 1 large thinly sliced
  • Chicken: 500 gm minced
  • Coriander Powder: 1 and ½ tbsp
  • Chili Powder: 1 and ½ tsp
  • Garam Masala: ½ tsp
  • Salt: 2 tsp
  • Curd: 3 tbsp beaten
  • Coriander Leaves: 2 tbsp finely chopped
  • Egg: 1 beaten
  • For the gravy:
  • Onion: 2 large
  • Ginger paste: 1 tsp
  • Garlic paste: 1 tsp
  • Bay Leaves: 3
  • Cardamom: 4
  • Cinnamon: 2 – 1 inch sticks
  • Tomatoes: 2 medium pureed
  • Coriander Powder: 1 tbsp
  • Cumin Powder: 1 tbsp
  • Chili Powder: 1 and ½ tsp
  • Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
  • Salt: 2 tsp
  • Water: 1 and ½ cup
  • Garam Masala: ¼ tsp
Instructions
  1. For the Kofta, Grind ginger, garlic and green chilies into a paste
  2. Heat the oil in a pan. Add onion and fry till golden brown. Drain onions and keep aside. Keep aside the pan with oil for later use.
  3. Mix the ginger paste, onions, chicken, coriander powder, chili powder, garam masala, salt, curd, coriander leaves and egg.
  4. Make 20 balls and keep aside.
  5. For the Gravy, Grind onions into a paste. Heat the oil in the pan. Add bay leaves, cardamom and cinnamon. Stir fry for a few seconds.
  6. Add onion paste and fry till golden brown.
  7. Add ginger garlic paste and stir fry briefly.
  8. Add tomatoes, coriander powder, cumin powder, chili powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.
  9. Stir fry till oil starts to separate. Add the water and garam masala and mix well.
  10. Add the kofta balls in a single layer in the gravy.
  11. Reduce heat to medium and close lid till the kofta balls are completely cooked.Baste with the gravy from time to time
