Methi dal is a simple dal recipe in which toor dal is cooked with methi (fenugreek leaves). It tastes very good both with rice and as well as rotis.
Ingredients
  • Toor Dal: ¾ cup
  • Methi leaves: 1 bunch washed and chopped
  • Tomatoes: 2 medium chopped
  • Green Chilies: 2 slit
  • Ghee: 1 tbsp
  • Cumin Seeds: 1 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds: 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves: 5-6
  • Hing: A pinch
  • Red Chili: 1 broken
  • Garlic: 2 cloves finely chopped
  • Turmeric Powder: ½ tsp
  • Salt: to taste
Instructions
  1. Pressure cook the dal with tomatoes and green chili till dal is completely cooked
  2. In a pan, heat ghee. Add mustard seeds and let splutter. Add cumin seeds and red chili and briefly stir fry.
  3. Add garlic, curry leaves and hing and fry till garlic is brown and curry leaves are crisp.
  4. Add cooked dal and tomato to the pan. Add turmeric and salt too.
  5. Let simmer. If dal is too thick, a little water can be added.
