French Toast Roll Ups are yet another interesting twist to the traditional french toast. The delicate cream cheese adds a good surprise element to these french toast roll ups. These french toast roll ups are essentially sweet and go great with a glass of strong cold coffee.
Come Sunday and I want to put up something interesting on the breakfast table. Eggs always prove very helpful in my weekend breakfast adventures. Some of my other egg based favorites are – Egg muffins, Quick Quiche (1 min recipe), Breakfast Casserole, Stuffed french toast and Breakfast Fusion. This time I had some cream cheese lying in the fridge, so I thought of using it up. I have tried these french toast roll ups twice – once with cream cheese and chopped strawberry stuffing and once with cream cheese and jam stuffing. Both the times the result was awesome.
Below is a step by step recipe with pictures depicting how to make these beautiful french toast roll ups.
Makes : 8 – 10 french toast roll ups
Preparation Time : 10 min
Cooking time : 15 min
Ingredients:
Eggs : 2
Milk : 4 tbsp
Bread slices : 8-10
Cream Cheese : 4 tbsp
Jam : 2 -3 tsp (can be increased as per taste)
Butter : for shallow frying the rolls
Powdered Sugar : 2-3 tbsp (for dusting the rolls)
Salt : a pinch
Method of Preparation:
- Trim the sides of the bread slices. With a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice and keep aside.
- Break eggs in a large bowl. Add milk and salt and beat well.
- Mix cream cheese and jam in a small bowl and keep aside.
- Take one bread slice and apply the cream cheese mixture evenly on one side.
- Roll up the slice, dip in the egg-milk mixture and shallow fry on a pan using butter as required.
- Once the roll is evenly golden brown on all sides, remove from pan and place on serving plate.
- Repeat the process with all bread slices. Dust the french toast roll ups generously with powdered sugar. Serve hot.
Note : The cream cheese and jam stuffing used in this recipe can be replaced with any stuffing of your choice.
