Orange Cookies are very easy to make and need just 4 basic ingredients. The fourth ingredient being orange rind :). This recipe for orange cookies uses only the rind of orange, but the flavor it gives to the cookies is going to leave your kitchen with a beautiful aroma.
These orange cookies were one of my first tries during my entire baking journey. They were so easy and turned out so yumm, that I actually felt motivated to try more of baking. I have always loved fruit flavored sweets and desserts. But I often felt the store bought orange cookies or biscuits have a very artificial flavor. These orange cookies on the other hand have a very light and subtle orange flavor which makes them truly irresistible. But do watch before over-indulging as they are quite buttery too ? These orange cookies can be enjoyed plain and you can completely skip the chocolate coat. Or if you are a chocolate lover, you can double the amount of chocolate and coat the orange cookie fully. You may also replace it with milk chocolate if you like.
If you enjoy fresh fruit flavors, you must try out orange pudding, apple cake, Strawberry cake, strawberry banana pudding, strawberry phirni etc.
Below is a step by step recipe for making these basic orange cookies –
Makes : 10-12 cookies
Preparation Time : 10 min
Baking Time : 15 min
Ingredients:
Butter : 1/2 cup (soft)
Powdered Sugar : 1/2 cup
All-purpose flour : 1 cup
Orange rind : 1 tsp (can be altered as per taste)
Dark Chocolate : 5 tbsp (optional or can be replaced by chocolate of your choice)
Method of Preparation:
- Add butter to a bowl and beat well till it is soft and light.
- Add the sugar and beat well till you get a light and fluffy mix
- Add the all-purpose flour and orange rind and incorporate it together to form a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into 10-12 parts and lightly flatten each part to form into a cookie. You can mark it with the back of a fork if you wish.
- Place on a baking tray and bake the orange cookies at 170 deg for 12-15 min. The time taken can vary based on the size of the oven and the number of cookies placed. Basically once you start getting the cookie smell in your kitchen, keep a closer eye on them. You can make a trial batch first to be sure of the time to be set.
- Remove the cookies from the oven and let cool on a wired rack. Your orange cookies are ready.
- In the meanwhile, melt chocolate (I added chocolate pieces in a microwave safe mug and kept on high power for 40 seconds.)
- Once the cookies have cooled, dip each cookie in the melted chocolate and place it on the wired rack again to allow the chocolate to set. You can decide if you wish to coat the cookies fully or only half as I have done. Store cookies in an air-tight container. You may not really get an opportunity to store them as they will be over in no time.
