Quick Garlic and Pepper Crabs

Crab meat is definitely one of the tastiest meat I have had. Being a native Goan, I was only known to crab recipes that are coconut based, most of which were kind of time consuming. The other day when husband and me went to buy fish, we saw some fresh crabs at the shelf and we just knew we had to pick them.

Both husband and me just love the Goan preparation- Crab Masala (Kullyanche Tonak). But this time I thought of trying something different and non-coconut based (breaking and scrapping a coconut sometimes feels boring – I know being a Goan I am forbidden to make a statement like that :) ) The instant thought on my mind were the yummy garlic pepper crabs we had eaten at a road-side eatery at Langkawi, Malaysia.

Put together a few simple ingredients – and the result was so good that we repented picking only two crabs. Will definitely make it again soon. The best part is it is so easy and quick to make. Anyways with crab as the core ingredient, it is very less likely you can go wrong. You can serve it as an accompaniment with rice or put together a salad(Corn Salad, Russian Salad or Avocado Tomato Salad) and serve as a combo.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Cooking Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:
Crabs : 2 (cleaned and claws separated)
Onion : 1 medium (cut into circles)
Garlic : 8-10 (finely chopped)
Peppercorns : 15 (crushed)
Chilli Flakes : 1 tsp
Soya sauce : 3 tbsp
Oil : 3 tsp
Sugar : 1/4 th tsp
Salt : as per taste

Method of Preparation:

  1. Heat oil in a skillet. Add the chopped garlic and onion.
  2. Once the onion turns soft, add the soya sauce, crushed pepper, chilli flakes, sugar and salt. Mix well.
  3. Add the crabs and stir to coat the crabs with the soya and onion.
  4. Cover cooked for 10 min or till the crabs are perfectly cooked.
  5. Remove cover and cook for 3-4 minutes till the liquid partly dries up. Serve as side dish or a starter.

Note : Only little salt maybe enough as both crabs and soya sauce tend be a bit salty.
