Amlechi Uddamethi (Goan Raw Mango Curry)

Amli is raw mango in konkani. Some people love to eat raw mangoes plain with a little salt and chili powder sprinkled. If you are one of them you may also like the Raw Mango Salad recipe.I love raw mangoes but not plain. I enjoy it more in the form of Aam Ka Panna, Sweet and Sour Raw Mango Pickle (God Lonche) or as a curry(Amlechi Uddamethi). This post explains the procedure of making Goan Raw Mango Curry (Amlechi uddamethi).

The word Uddamethi comes from two words- Udda (Urad Dal) and methi (Fenugreek seeds). This preparation of Goan Raw Mango Curry does not use onion and garlic and hence is commonly made on festivals and special occasions which call for pure veg (without onion and garlic) recipes.

This recipe can also be prepared using Ambade (Spondias, hog plums, Spanish plums, libas). In Goa, Amlechi Uddamethi is commonly eaten with Rice.
