Chocolate and Vanilla Creams

An interesting egg-less dessert that is very easy to make! The texture of the creams on setting was so lovely that we kept on digging inside the cups for more :) This will surely be on my menu next time I have some friends over for dinner. I feel that layered desserts always add some glamour quotient to a dinner table :). Some of my other favorite ones are Trifle and Serradura (Portuguese Sawdust Pudding).

Makes: 2 servings
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:
Fresh Cream : 200 ml
Powdered Sugar : 3-4 heaped tsp
Gelatine : 1 tsp
Water : 2-3 tsp
Vanilla Essence : 2-3 drops
Milk Chocolate : 1/3rd cup (finely chopped)
Chocolate Shavings : 2 tbsp (or more) for garnishing

Method of Preparation:

  1. Add the cream and sugar in a big saucepan on a low flame and mix till the sugar dissolves. Add vanilla essence and stir. Simmer for 2-3 minutes. Remove from flame and keep aside.
  2. In a small bowl, add gelatin and water. Place this on a double boiler and stir till gelatin dissolves. (Basically gelatin should not come in contact with direct heat. So you need to place the bowl containing gelatin inside a bowl containing water which needs to be kept on a low flame.
  3. Add this to the cream and mix well.
  4. Melt the chopped chocolate pieces using a double boiler or microwave for 40-50 seconds.
  5. Add half of the cream to the melted chocolate and mix well.
  6. Spoon this chocolate mixture in individual serving dishes and keep in freezer for 10 minutes (till it sets).
  7. Spoon the vanilla mixture on top of the chocolate mixture and refrigerate till it sets.
  8. Just before serving, garnish with chocolate shavings.
