Trifle

Trifle is a delicious dessert which consists of a combination of jelly, sponge cake and custard. you can also make your own version of it by adding fruits of your choice, whipped cream etc. My mom used to make this very often when we were kids and I remember how much we would love it.

A few days back, I was wondering what to make for dessert and I suddenly remembered that I had not eaten Trifle for a very long time. I decided to make it and it was a super hit in my house. It is also a very simple recipe, and can serve as a perfect dessert if you are having guests over. You can either use ready made sponge cake or make your own.

Serradura in Portuguese means sawdust, and the sawdust in this dessert is powdered tea biscuits. The biscuits are powdered to super fine and resemble sawdust. 🙂

Red Velvet Cake

Red Velvet Cake – Sounds really tempting, Doesn’t it? I made this cake this Valentines Day. The red color making it a perfect cake for the occasion. My Valentines – hubby and my tiny tot just loved it. I particularly liked the velvety texture- the feel that you get when you pop a piece in your mouth. Not sure what I mean? Well, time to try out the recipe I guess 🙂

You must have noticed that I have applied less icing in between and on the cake. I don’t like too sweet desserts so I always cut down on the icing. The next time I try it though, I would definitely use more icing as I am sure that with sufficient icing layer in between the cakes, the red and white contrast would be more prominent and would definitely make the cake look even more tempting..

Note : To make the cake flour at home, you would need all purpose flour and corn flour. For each cup of all purpose flour, take out two tablespoons from the flour and replace with two tablespoons of corn flour. Sift 2-3 times and your cake flour is ready.
