Shepuche Pole (Dill Leaves Dosa)

Dill leaves have several health benefits. This is a very simple and delicious dosa recipe which I had always loved as a kid and now my daughter loves it too. It is a great option for breakfast and a good tiffin box option too.

I believe that it tastes best with Butter.

Kanda Bhajiya (Onion Pakoras)

One thing I miss most in Bahrain is the rains in India, particularly Goa. The smell of the mud after the first rain, the greenery all around, how I wish it would rain like that in Bahrain. However, here there is no rainy season. There are occasional showers usually associated with the change in season.

When I think about rain, apart from the smell of mud, greenery, cool breeze, there is something else which comes to my mind – A hot cup of tea with a plate of hot crispy Kanda Bhajiyas or Onion Pakoras. Pakora is nothing but a deep fried snack (fritter) which is very popular in India.

Last week, there were a few showers in Bahrain and of course it was a must to make Kanda Bhajiyas. We had a great time enjoying the bhajiyas and tea in the balcony watching it rain… 🙂

Methi Paratha

Here is a very simple paratha recipe. It serves as a great breakfast or lunch option as well as a great tiffin box option for my toddler and lunch box option for my hubby. Great isn’t it?

You can replace the methi leaves with palak leaves or grated carrot too. These parathas can be served with pickle, butter, tomato ketchup or chutney. In my house, everyone enjoys these parathas with butter.

Ragda Pattice

Ragda Pattice is a very popular snack and fast food in India. It consists of patties made of mashed potatoes and ragda which consists of a thick gravy made of white peas. Add to it onion, coriander, spicy mint chutney and sweet and tangy tamarind chutney, and you have a delicious snack ready for you. The potatoes give you carbohydrates, the white peas are rich in protein, the date tamarind chutney is rich in iron, can it be called a complete meal? I think yes. You can also make it healthier by stuffing some veggies in the patties, but in this recipe I have made only plain potato patties.

Beetroot Paratha

Beetroot is rich in nutrients and minerals and packed with anti-oxidants, but low in fat. It has several heath benefits and including it as a part of your diet on a regular basis is very beneficial.

Plus, the red color of beetroot is so bright that kids love the color. However, getting them to eat it might be a bit of a challenge. This recipe of beetroot paratha is perfect as it combines the goodness of beetroot and feta cheese together and provides a complete balanced meal with carbohydrates, minerals, vitamins, calcium and vitamin D. My kiddo loved it and it serves as a breakfast or tiffin box item for her quite often.

Sweet Appe (Appe Cake)

Appe are small crispy round balls which are very popular in South Indian cuisine, served mostly for breakfast or as a snack. They can be made in several different ways. This recipe is for sweet Appe made with whole wheat flour, jaggery and milk. A very complete meal in itself…isn’t it? Wheat flour provides carbohydrates, jaggery is a rich source of iron and milk provides calcium and vitamin D. Sometimes I even mash bananas and add them to the batter, for additional health benefits.

Now you must be wondering why the name Appe cake? Well, the first time I made them for my toddler, she just loved them and said “mamma, it tastes just like cake.” And she was the one who named it appe cake. It is also an excellent tiffin box snack for kids. So try it out…I am sure your kid would like it too.
